Advancing workplace drug testing beyond legacy assumptions.

FluidPath brings detection blind spots into view—and connects evidence, industry preparedness, and practical infrastructure to advance oral fluid testing adoption.

What are we missing?

A test result reflects more than what happens in the lab

Laboratory accuracy matters. But a workplace testing program’s ability to identify drug use also depends on what happens before the specimen reaches the laboratory.

When a donor is motivated to avoid detection, collection conditions matter. Opportunities for substitution or tampering can influence what the specimen—and ultimately the result—reveals.

Motivation + Opportunity

= Affected Outcomes

Oral fluid testing changes that equation through directly observed collection, reducing opportunities to circumvent the process.

System sensitivity describes how effectively a testing program identifies drug use under real-world conditions. Understanding that performance helps employers evaluate the value of their testing investment beyond laboratory accuracy and cost per test.

What are we buying?

The test is the mechanism. Intelligence is the product.

Employers naturally assume most workplace drug screens will be negative. That only makes sense - you wouldn't offer a job to an applicant you felt couldn't pass a pre-employment test and you wouldn't put an employee into a job if you felt they were using illicit drugs. The drug test is simply the mechanism.  The product is the intelligence that either validates or disproves that assumption.

That intelligence can change a hiring decision, prompt intervention, or inform workplace safety.

What is the true measure of value?

Measure the cost of what you learn, not what you do.

Cost per test is a commonly used metric for evaluating workplace drug testing programs. If intelligence is the product – the price of a test is only part of the equation. If two testing approaches differ in their ability to reveal drug use, comparing cost per test alone can obscure what an employer is actually receiving.

The better question: What does it cost to uncover intelligence you can act on?

Cost per unit of intelligence

Cost per detection – or unit of intelligence - provides a practical way to measure that value: the total cost of testing divided by the number of positive findings. An approach with a higher price per test can deliver a lower cost per detection when it identifies more drug use.

FluidPath helps employers examine the evidence, reconsider legacy assumptions, and evaluate testing programs by the intelligence they provide.
